This injection-molded plastic kit depicts the German heavy transport trailer Sd.Ah.116, designed to carry tanks. The package includes light gray plastic sprues, rubber tires and accessories for the loading platform. The trailer can be built either ready for loading or in traveling configuration, following the instructions.
The Pz.Kpfw.Sd.Ah.116 was a twin, four-axle trailer with a load capacity of around 24 tons, designed to carry medium tanks of the Panzer III and Panzer IV types. It was most often towed by FAMO Sd.Kfz.9 or Sd.Kfz.8 half-track prime movers, since driving the tanks under their own power quickly wore them out. Fold-down loading ramps allowed the vehicles to be driven straight onto the platform.
Fine-tune the chassis and axles before fitting the platform. Use a thin liquid modeling cement for the plastic, and finish the rubber tires with a matte paint. The large flat surfaces of the platform come out well with a fine wash and dust pigments to suggest wear from service.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
