Eduard – 3D decals for the interior of the TBF-1C Avenger 1:72 (Hobby Boss)

A set of color Eduard 3D decals from the SPACE range for detailing the interior of the TBF-1C Avenger kit in 1:72 scale from Hobby Boss. It is neither a model of an aircraft nor a kit – it is a supplementary set, and the model itself has to be bought separately.

The 3D decals are printed in full color and have genuine raised relief, so once they are applied the instruments, the controls and the belts look three-dimensional and the lengthy hand painting of small details is avoided. According to the manufacturer the set contains 3D decals of the main and side instrument and control panels and the seat belts. Paints, glue and the kit are not included in the package.

Use

• The decals are applied directly onto the plastic cockpit parts of the Hobby Boss kit – the plastic parts are therefore not cut away or replaced.
• Sand the surface smooth beforehand, degrease it and ideally give it a gloss clear coat – a smooth surface makes the part adhere with no visible edges.
• Moisten only the backing paper with a sponge, lift the part off with tweezers and fix it with white PVA glue.
• Do not use decal softener; its chemistry attacks the printed resin, and the manufacturer does not recommend super glue.
• Once it is dry, the whole area can be unified with a matte clear coat and the shadows brought up gently.

For modelers who build the Avenger in 1:72 scale from Hobby Boss and want to lift the level of the cockpit markedly, quickly and without demanding painting. Applying 3D decals is considerably simpler than fitting small photo-etched parts, so the set is manageable even for less experienced modelers. An ideal accessory for those who build with the cockpit open.
