A kit of the TIE Advanced fighter from the world of Star Wars in 1:72 scale from Revell. The machine with its characteristically curved solar panels was made famous by Darth Vader, who intervened in person in the battle for the first Death Star in it, so the model belongs among the most sought-after craft of the Empire of all.
The TIE Advanced x1 came about as the prototype of an improved TIE fighter: unlike the line machines it was given deflector shields, a hyperdrive and stronger weapon systems, yet it kept the typical twin ion engine whose shriek became the sound signature of the whole range. In the film battle over Yavin, Vader's machine fought its way right to the trench of the battle station and in the end came out of the Imperial formation as the only one.
The color scheme rests on subtle gray and blue-gray surfaces: support the differences between the panels with light shading and a dark wash in the engraved lines. The solar panels of the wings will come out well after being gone over with a deep graphite color and careful dry-brushing of the edges. Mask the cockpit glazing before spraying; a final satin finish will give the machine the look of the film.
