Responsibility details are not available.
A short-run plastic kit of the two-seat training version of the American fighter Bell P-39 Airacobra in 1:72 scale from the Czech brand RS Models. The package holds gray injection-molded parts, clear canopy parts and a decal sheet with American as well as Soviet markings. The model captures the special training conversion with its second cockpit.
The TP-39 (originally RP-39) came about by converting several P-39Q fighters into two-seat trainers with dual controls. The extra cockpit was built into the forward fuselage, which gave the aircraft an unmistakable silhouette with two glazed hatches. The machines served to convert pilots onto the Airacobra, whose unusual layout with the engine behind the pilot called for training. Training Airacobras were used by the American as well as the Soviet Air Force, where many P-39s were headed under the deliveries.
On a short-run kit, dry-fit the parts, clean up the sprue gates and fill the gaps with putty. Pay attention to the double cockpit and its glazing — careful masking pays off. Apply a primer before painting. Natural metal or training colors come out well with an airbrush; lay the decals over a gloss varnish.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
