An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet twin-engine jet aircraft Tupolev Tu-16 in the Badger C version (NATO reporting name) in 1:72 scale from Trumpeter. This naval variant was adapted to carry a single large anti-ship guided missile under the fuselage, and it differs from the classic bomber in its modified nose with a large radome instead of the glazed navigator's station. Despite the 1:72 scale it is a big model. The box contains clear parts for the glazing of the crew stations and the large missile. Check the exact package contents and the number of marking options against the manufacturer's part number for this item.
The Tu-16 was among the first Soviet production heavy jet bombers and was powered by a pair of powerful engines in the wing roots. The version known to NATO as the Badger C served with naval aviation as the carrier of a large anti-ship missile and therefore had a big radar in the nose for finding ship targets. Unlike the bomb-carrying versions, its main strength lay in a single heavy guided missile able to attack large surface targets at a considerable distance.
Cut the parts from the sprues and glue them with liquid modeling cement for plastic. Paint and highlight the glazed crew stations before you close the fuselage, and mask the clear parts during spraying. On a large model make sure the fuselage halves join straight, that the wings are seated correctly and that the big nose radome blends cleanly. Apply a primer and the paints with an airbrush, apply the decals over a gloss coat and bring out the panel lines with a wash. Assemble and fit the large missile at the end.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
