An injection-molded plastic kit of the German submarine SM U9 of the First World War period from the manufacturer Das Werk in 1:72. It is a large and richly detailed model with a well worked-out hull surface; the package contains optionally openable or closed hatches and torpedo doors, optional masts and a display stand. The finished model measures over 80 cm. The kit is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
SM U9 (Seiner Majestat U-Boot 9) was a submarine of the Imperial German Navy with a double hull and kerosene-electric propulsion. She wrote herself into history on 22 September 1914, when in a single action she sank three British armored cruisers, Aboukir, Hogue and Cressy, and a few weeks later the cruiser Hawke as well. That success shocked the world and showed in full how dangerous a weapon submarines had become in modern naval warfare.
First join and fill the hull halves carefully, so that no seams show; on a submarine a smooth hull is essential. Decide in advance whether you will leave the hatches and torpedo doors open. The fine surface detail of the rivets is brought out with a thin wash into the recesses. Use the enclosed stand for display; paint the conning tower and the superstructure separately and fit them only after the base coat has been sprayed.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
