Metal 105 mm howitzer barrel for the Sherman, 1:72

A turned metal barrel of the American one-hundred-and-five-millimeter tank howitzer for a model of the Sherman in the M4A3 variant, in 1:72 scale. It is not a model but a replacement part. The howitzer version of the Sherman differs from the ordinary one at first glance precisely in the barrel: it is short and thick, because a howitzer fires at a lower velocity along a steeper trajectory.

Building and painting tips

Drill the opening in the turret to the diameter of the shank, so that the barrel seats concentrically. In 1:72 the part is small, so work with tweezers over a light surface. It is glued with super glue. Degrease the part before painting and lay down a primer. On a short thick barrel it is the cleanliness of the muzzle that shows most, so leave it in bare metal or blacken it and do not flood it with paint.
