A set of plastic figures in 1:72 scale with forty-eight figures of Dutch infantry from the campaign of 1815. It is supplied unpainted and complements the British and allied sets in the same scale.
The Dutch-Belgian units made up a substantial part of Wellington's army at Waterloo and their share in the battle tends to be underrated. Many of the soldiers had experience from French service, because the territory had been part of France until 1814, and the new army was only being put together. The uniforms were blue, close to the French in cut, and the shako had a Dutch shape; the similarity led to cases of mistaken identity on the battlefield. It was the Dutch units that held the position at Quatre Bras until the British reinforcements arrived.
With forty-eight figures it pays to work in waves: undercoat the whole batch first, then lay the blue coat and the white trousers down uniformly, and only at the end add the faces, the straps and the colored facings. Build the blue up in layers over a gray base so that it does not stay muddy. A glaze drawn into the folds gives the figures depth without shading every one individually.
The figures are supplied unpainted. Paints, glue and bases are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
