The Kawasaki ZX-10R is a faired road supersport of the liter class with a liquid-cooled inline four. It belongs among the machines which let their engineering be seen: under the fairing the frame and part of the engine stay exposed, and at the front an inverted telescopic fork does its work. On a model two kinds of surface therefore meet, the glossy smooth fairing and the intricate engine with the chassis, and it is precisely their difference that makes the finished piece interesting.
It is a plastic kit of a motorcycle in 1:9 scale, that is in a size in which even small detail can be worked out. The rendition is carried as pre-colored: the parts arrive already in color, so the basic look of the model comes about without spraying and the build is manageable even for someone who has no airbrush. A pre-colored kit is not a finished model, though. The parts still have to be separated, assembled and tuned; it is only a large part of the work on painting the fairing that is done away with.
With pre-colored parts one thing applies on top: the color is on the surface, so sanding and excess glue show on them. Separate the parts with nippers a little way from the part and sand the remainder with fine paper only where the spot will disappear once assembled. Meter the glue as sparingly as possible and apply it with a point to the mating surfaces, not to visible edges. Wipe fingerprints off the colored plastic before you put the model together. The result will benefit if you set the metal parts apart with hand-applied paint and leave the tires in a subdued dark gray instead of pure black.
The model is supplied unassembled. Paints, glue and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
