HäT 28001 Spanish heavy infantry of the era of El Cid is a set of 28mm figures in hard plastic, thirty-two figures in the package.
Responsibility details are not available.
This HäT figure set in the 28 mm wargaming scale contains thirty-two figures of Spanish heavy infantry of the eleventh century. It is the basic infantry set of the Christian side in the range devoted to the fighting on the Iberian peninsula; the same side also has light infantry and both kinds of cavalry. The figures are of hard polystyrene and are joined with ordinary modeling cement.
Christian heavy infantry of the period rested on a close rank with spears and large shields, often almond-shaped, and on mail armor that only the more experienced and better paid fighters could afford. Its task was to hold the line while the charge of the cavalry decided the outcome. Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar, known as El Cid, led formations of exactly this mixed kind, and his reputation grew out of being able to command Christians and Muslims alike, depending on whom he was serving at the time.
The spears in this range are thin and break; a broken one is replaced with steel wire glued into a drilled hole. Paint the shields separately, pattern and all, while you still have them loose in your hand, and attach them only at the end. Do the mail armor with a dark base and a dry brush in a metal tone, which brings out the texture. Keep the clothing in muted earth shades.
The figures are supplied unpainted. Paints, glue and bases are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
