About product

What a primer is good for

A primer is the coat on which everything else stands. It unifies a surface made up of different materials, gives the paint something to take hold of and above all shows up faults before it is too late: an unsanded joint, the imprint of abrasive paper or a greasy fingerprint are revealed by a single-colored area at once, whereas on a bare model they blend in. They can then be put right without frustration, because the work is still going on beneath the paint.

The ivory shade

A light warm ground makes sense everywhere an opaque paint is to follow that holds its brightness only with difficulty by itself: white, yellow, orange, sand and light gray. Over a dark primer such shades turn gray and you have to apply them in a heavy coat, which floods the fine surface detail. Ivory, against a pure white, does not dazzle so much at the same time, so you can judge shape and unevenness better on it.

How to work with it

Wash and degrease the model before application, ideally in lukewarm soapy water, and let it dry out properly. Stir the bottle thoroughly, as the pigment settles at the bottom. Apply in several thin coats; one heavy coat will fill the engraved detail and the rivets. Once dry, look the area over against the light and put right any faults you find, and only then go on with the opaque paint. Thinning, the method of application and the recommended drying time are stated by the manufacturer on the packaging.

What is being sold

The primer alone is supplied. Thinner, paints and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Work in a ventilated room and store the bottle closed and out of the reach of children.

FAQ

Light shades with little covering power hold their brightness on it. Over a dark ground they turn gray and would have to be applied in a heavy coat that floods the engraved detail and the rivets.

Wash it in lukewarm soapy water, degrease it and let it dry out. A primer will not take hold on a greasy surface.

Several thin ones instead of one heavy one. Once dry, look the area over against the light and put right any faults while they are still beneath the opaque paint.

It is not; what is being sold is the primer alone. The recommended thinning and method of application are stated by the manufacturer on the packaging.
