The collector sculpture 75mm Erwin Rommel with tripod telescope from Royal Model shows the German field marshal at an observation telescope on a tripod.
Responsibility details are not available.
A large resin figure from the Italian brand Royal Model captures the German commander observing the ground. A telescope on a tripod is part of the subject, that is the instrument used by artillery and armored units alike to study a distant target. The size of seventy-five millimeters makes it possible to work out the straps, the bent legs of the tripod and the goggles on the headgear.
Erwin Rommel took over command of the German corps sent to North Africa in February 1941, and over the following months he became known for rapid moves and for his personal presence in the front line. In June 1942, after the capture of Tobruk, he received the rank of field marshal. His recognizable marks were captured British dust goggles worn over the side cap and the long leather coat he wore on cold desert mornings. In 1944 he directed the fortification of the French coast and he died that same year.
The tripod tends to be the most fragile part in sets like this. Separate the legs with a fine-toothed saw and strengthen the joints with cyanoacrylate and an accelerator, or glue in a wire pin. Desert dress will take plenty of dusting: a light pigment glaze laid into the folds sets the knees and the hems of the coat apart. The metal parts of the instrument come out better in a dark graphite shade than in bright silver.
The casting arrives unassembled and without paints.
