The collector sculpture 75mm Italo Balbo from Royal Model portrays the Italian aviator and Marshal of the Air Force at a size of 75 millimeters.
Responsibility details are not available.
This resin sculpture from the Italian brand Royal Model belongs to a collector range roughly seventy-five millimeters tall that the manufacturer itself assigns to 1:24 scale. The larger format makes it possible to work out the face, the buttons and the folds of the uniform in considerably more detail than on figures for dioramas. The subject is one of the best-known characters of Italian aviation.
He was born in 1896 and from the end of the 1920s he stood at the head of the Regia Aeronautica. A long-distance mass flight made him famous: in 1930 he led a formation of seaplanes from Italy to Brazil, and three years later he staged an even more demanding crossing to Chicago. A tight formation of many aircraft is still nicknamed a balbo after him. From 1934 he served as Governor-General of Libya, and in June 1940 he died near Tobruk when his aircraft was shot down by his own antiaircraft defenses.
A larger casting is rewarding but unforgiving: every parting line left unsanded will show. After washing and drying, go over the surfaces with fine sanding paper, glue the joints with cyanoacrylate and fill the gaps with putty. Apply the primer in a thin coat. The face is usually painted first, and oil paints allow the soft transitions here that are harder to achieve with acrylics.
The sculpture is sold unassembled and unpainted.
