An acrylic wash in a black shade for bringing out engraving, seams and corners on a model. It is applied over a dry coat of paint and the excess is wiped off.
Responsibility details are not available.
A wash is heavily thinned paint which, thanks to how fluid it is, flows on its own into engraved lines, seams and corners and stays there even after the surrounding area has been wiped. The model gains depth: engraved lines and the shadows under raised parts stop merging with their surroundings and the surface stops looking flat. A black shade gives the strongest contrast, so it suits dark vehicles, metal surfaces, the running gear and places where a shadow should be strong.
Stir the pot thoroughly before use, the pigment settles at the bottom. Apply the wash over a dry coat of paint, best on a smooth and unified surface; on a rough matte surface it is harder to wipe off and it leaves stains. Apply it with a brush deliberately into a seam or across a whole part, let it set briefly and wipe the excess off with a brush moistened in the thinner the manufacturer specifies for this range. Always wipe from the top down, so that the marks left behind match the direction of running.
On light-colored surfaces a black wash is hard and easily dirties them more than you intended; there, work in small sections and wipe the excess off at once. Test the strength of the effect first on a piece of scrap plastic or in a less conspicuous place.
Thinner, brushes and other materials are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
