A warm cardinal purple from the self-shading Vallejo acrylic line, set between red and violet. For ceremonial robes and richly decorated cloth.

A cardinal color is neither red nor violet: it lies between them and has enough of a red underside in it to look warm and costly. Historically it was the most costly of fabric dyes, and the role of the shade on a model matches that, namely the dress of figures of standing, ceremonial robes, bishops' cloaks and formal shabraques.
This line has violet and purple in five active shades and the differences between them are subtle, yet clearly visible on a figure. A ready-made set picks one of them, and that is at the same time the main limitation of ready-made packages: you get matching tones, but not the choice of shade. Anyone painting ecclesiastical or courtly figures usually needs exactly this warm end of the scale and not a cool violet.
The application draws into the folds and there it passes into a deep wine, whereas on the tops of the folds it stays translucent and pinker. The result therefore looks like fabric with a sheen, not like a flat coat. The condition is a light base; on a dark ground the difference between depth and light is lost.
