Model Air shades for French armored equipment before the war and in 1940. They aim at the multicolored patterns separated by dark lines.
Responsibility details are not available.
French armored vehicles between the wars looked completely different from the equipment of their neighbors. Instead of a single color or two tones they carried complex patterns of three or even four fields, green, ocher and brown, and those fields were often separated by a dark, almost black line. The pattern covered the hull, the turret and the fenders and was different at every workshop, so it became one of the most demanding tasks that armored equipment offers a modeler.
First the lightest tone goes onto the assembled and sanded model as an overall ground. Onto that, freehand or through masking putty, the second and third fields are laid, and only at the end is the separating line drawn with a very fine nozzle or a small brush. It pays to keep that order, because a dark line drawn first will be lost under the later coats and is hard to find again. The set is built for spraying, so the boundaries of the fields can be made sharp or blurred depending on which workshop you are imitating.
The reach is bounded by the prewar time and the war years, that is the era when this equipment really served in the colors of its own army. For machines captured and repainted by a foreign army the palette no longer fits and other shades have to be added. Decals, tactical markings and masking material are not in the package.
