About product

Vallejo Airbrush Flow Improver 17 ml

An airbrush auxiliary product from Vallejo in a 17 ml dropper bottle. It is not a paint or a kit - it is an additive that is added to acrylic paint and changes how it behaves while being sprayed. It improves the flow of the paint and slows the drying of the paint right on the tip of the needle, so the paint does not dry in the nozzle and the spray pattern stays smooth and even.

How it differs from a thinner

This is where the most common confusion arises. A thinner thins the paint - it lowers its body so that the paint gets through the nozzle at all, and at the same time it lightens it and weakens its covering power. A flow improver does not thin the paint. It is not added to make the paint thinner but to keep it wet longer and flowing better. That solves the most irritating problem of airbrushing: paint dries on the tip of the needle, spraying turns grainy, the paint spits and the nozzle gradually clogs. A thinner and a flow improver therefore do not rule each other out - they complement each other. You thin the paint to the right consistency with a thinner and fine-tune it with a flow improver so that it does not dry out during a longer session. That is exactly why it is worth having both on the bench.

Use

  • It is added in a small amount - a few drops per ten drops of paint, not half a cup. The exact dosing is on the label.
  • Intended for acrylic (water-thinnable) paints - it is not a thinner for solvent-based paints.
  • The dropper bottle allows dosing drop by drop straight into the airbrush cup or into a mixing pot.
  • It helps most during long continuous spraying, in a warm and dry environment and with fine nozzles, where the nozzle clogs fastest.
  • Do not overdo it - an excess of the additive lengthens the drying of the coat. If the coat stays tacky for a long time, use less next time.

Who it is for

For anyone who sprays acrylics with an airbrush and struggles with paint drying on the needle - from plastic model builders to figure painters. It pays off above all where large areas are sprayed in one go or where the airbrush is set fine and precise.

Safety: work in a well-ventilated area, ideally at a spray booth. Do not inhale the aerosol created while spraying - use a respirator. Avoid contact with skin and eyes, wear gloves and wash your hands after work. In sensitive people the product may cause an allergic skin reaction. Keep out of reach of children and follow the data on the label.

FAQ

No. A thinner thins the paint and adjusts its body so that it gets through the nozzle. A flow improver does not thin the paint - it only improves its flow and slows the drying on the needle. They are two different products used side by side: you thin the paint with a thinner and fine-tune it with a flow improver.

Always only a small amount - a few drops per ten drops of paint. The dropper bottle is made for exactly that kind of dosing. The exact ratio is on the label. An excess of the additive lengthens the drying of the coat and the surface may stay tacky.

It is not a paint or a kit but an auxiliary product. It is added to acrylic (water-thinnable) paints intended for airbrush spraying. It is not meant for solvent-based paints.

Yes, that is its main job. Dried paint on the tip of the needle is the most common cause of grainy spraying and a clogged nozzle. A flow improver slows the drying, so you can spray longer without stopping to clean.
