Black with a semi-gloss finish, sold under the trade designation Black Night Squad Black. Semi-gloss is the step between matte and gloss: the surface returns light but does not form a sharp reflection in it. With black that is exactly what matters. A completely matte black absorbs light so perfectly that the part becomes a dark hole without shape, while a high gloss turns it into a mirror in which the edges are lost. A semi-gloss finish leaves the shape legible.
On inner frames and load-bearing structures, on joint parts, on covers and panels that are to read as machined metal, and on accessory parts where it should be clear that they are of a different material from the surrounding surface. It also serves well as a base under metallic shades, because a dark smooth base gives metallic pigment a depth it will not gain on a light one.
Stir the container thoroughly before use; the pigment settles at the bottom. Wash and degrease the parts; fingerprints last longer than one would expect and paint does not hold on them. Apply in several thin coats with a short pause between them. Black covers well, and all the more easily floods engraved lines, so a heavier application will rather harm the shape. Every speck of dust is visible on the finished surface, so work in a clean space and let the parts dry covered. Choose the thinner and the cleaner from the same line.
Lay a gloss intermediate coat under decals; on semi-gloss a silvery haze would appear under the carrier film. Let the paint cure thoroughly before masking, press the tape down only at the edge and pull it off slowly and at an angle. The package holds the paint. Thinner, airbrushes, brushes and other aids are not included, unless stated otherwise. Work in a well-ventilated room and store the container carefully closed, out of the reach of children.
