Bright Silver Candy Base

What the paint is for

Bright Silver Candy Base is a bright silver base for transparent paints from the AMMO of Mig Jimenez range, carried under the number A.MIG-2450. On its own it serves as a gloss silver coat, but it makes most sense paired with the transparent shades the manufacturer offers in the same group. It is precisely the reflective base that decides how the result will look.

How the candy effect works

The method has two steps. First the silver base goes on, behaving like a mirror, and only then comes a thin coat of transparent paint. Light passes through the colored layer, reflects off the metallic base and comes back, so the shade appears deep and shifts with the viewing angle, something a fully opaque coat can never manage. The saturation is governed by the number of transparent coats: the more of them, the darker and more saturated the result. Even application is therefore essential, as every heavier pass will stay visible as a darker streak.

Application

• shake the bottle thoroughly before use, as the metallic component settles at the bottom
• level and smooth the surface, as a metallic coat emphasizes every imperfection
• choose the thinner and the thinning ratio according to the manufacturer's instructions on the packaging
• apply several thin coats and let them cure properly
• lay masking tape only onto a fully cured coat, or it will pull the sheen off
• try the whole sequence out on a plastic offcut rather than straight on the model

The base paint is what is supplied. Transparent paints, thinner, varnishes and a model are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
