Character Blue - (Semi Gloss)

The color and the finish

This is a blue shade from the Mr.Color range, listed under the designation Character Blue. The qualifier Semi Gloss states the degree of gloss once dry: the surface stays between matte and gloss, with a silky sheen. Such a surface is rewarding on a model, because it does not flood the shape with hard highlights the way full gloss does, and yet it does not look dusty like a purely matte paint.

Where you will use it

A semi-gloss blue suits large continuous areas where you want to keep the shape legible, as well as color features and fittings. Compare the exact tone against the manufacturer's color chart before buying; a printed or displayed shade always differs a little from the real finish. If you are building a model with a markedly glossy surface, bear in mind that the base has to be carefully smoothed, because a smoother coat will not hide flaws underneath.

How to work with it

Shake the bottle thoroughly before use, as the pigment settles at the bottom. Apply in several thin coats and let them become tacky between coats; one heavy coat buries fine surface detail and dries unevenly. Choose the thinner intended for this line and the thinning ratio according to the manufacturer's instructions on the package. Work in a ventilated area and rinse your tools and the airbrush out immediately after the work.
