A dark gray carried in the American Federal Standard 595 standard under the number 36176. The standard serves to define color tones unambiguously in military specifications, so the number identifies the shade regardless of what any given manufacturer calls it. The finish is semi-gloss.
The paint belongs to the C range of the Gunze Mr.Color brand. The thinner and the thinning ratio follow the manufacturer's instructions on the packaging; always use a thinner intended for this range. It dries quickly and the dried film is tough, taking masking, panel line emphasis and subsequent varnishing well. Work in a well-ventilated room.
Stir the bottle thoroughly before use, as the pigment settles. For spraying, thin the paint to the consistency of milk and apply it in several thin coats; one thick coat drowns fine surface relief. With a brush, work in two passes as well and lay the second coat perpendicular to the first. Wash and degrease the model before painting; on smooth plastic and on metal a primer coat pays off. A semi-gloss surface is a good base for decals, because it limits the risk of silvering.
The shade will be appreciated by builders of military equipment who work to specified schemes and want the tone backed by a standard number. A thinner, brushes and a model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
