A loose material from the Diorama FX line intended for creating the surface of a dry stony landscape. The grain size runs between two and five millimeters and the shade is yellow, pitched toward parched soil. It is a scatter material, that is a loose granulate which is poured onto a base and glued down, not a finished base.
The coarser grain suits anywhere the ground is meant to look broken and untended: a farm track churned up by tracks, the edge of a crater, a gravel verge, rubble by a wall or the floor of a dried-up streambed. In larger scales it works as aggregate, in smaller ones as boulders. It pays to mix grain sizes and shades, because an even surface made from a single material looks artificial.
First coat the surface of the base with PVA glue and pour the material onto it, then tap the surplus off once it is dry. The other route is to spread the material dry, level it into the shape you want, and only then soak it drop by drop with thinned PVA glue and a drop of dish soap, which lowers the surface tension and lets the glue reach the bottom. Leave it to dry overnight. Then even the result out with a thinned glaze and lift the highest edges with a dry brush.
This is the scenic material on its own. A base, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
