The set contains nine figures of dogs made by 3D printing technology. It is not a model kit and not a finished scene, but a diorama accessory: the dogs are added to scenery that is already built — beside figures, into an alley between houses, into a yard, beside a vehicle or onto the base under a display figure. An animal in a composition fills two roles. For one thing it gives a viewer immediate scale, because everyone can picture a dog at its real size, and for another it breaks up a static scene and leads the eye to the main motif. The particular breeds, poses and the height of the individual pieces are not stated here, so we do not claim them.
Printed figures of this kind are small and have thin places — legs, tails, ears. Separate the parts from the print supports gradually, therefore, and with a sharp tool, not by snapping them off: pare the remains of the supports away with a scalpel and level the spots with fine sandpaper or a small file, keeping the pressure minimal. Then wash the surface in lukewarm water with a drop of dish soap and let it dry out completely, otherwise neither primer nor paint will hold. They are glued with super glue; cement for polystyrene does not take on printed parts. Work over a surface and with tweezers — a small part that falls onto a carpet is usually never found again.
The surest procedure is a thin layer of primer from a spray or an airbrush, the base tone of the fur over it and only then the modeling. The volume of the fur is pulled out by a dry brush in a lighter shade across the back and the edges, while the hollows and the lower parts are deepened by a darker glaze or a wash. The eyes and the nose are done at the very end, with a very fine brush and with the hand supported. Thin the paint more than you are used to from large areas — several thin layers always look better on a small figure than one thick one. At the end even the surface out with a matte varnish and leave the gloss only on the eyes and the nose.
The figures are supplied unpainted. Paints, glue and a base are not part of the package, unless stated otherwise.
