A set of twenty-six figures of spiders made by 3D printing technology. It is neither a model nor a kit, but a small accessory for a scene. It comes into its own everywhere a space is to feel long abandoned: in a ruin, in a cellar, in a deserted workshop, in a sewer, on an overgrown wreck or on the base of a fantasy or gaming figure. The high number of pieces matters here — a spider is such a small element that one in a scene will be lost, whereas several placed around the walls, in the corners and on a window frame already change the sense of a whole scene readably. The particular species, poses and the span of the individual pieces are not given here, so we make no claim about them.
In terms of handling this is the most demanding category of printed accessory: the legs of a spider are the thinnest structure a print can hold and they take only minimal mechanical load. Work over a light surface with a raised edge, use tweezers with fine jaws and never take hold of a figure by the legs with your fingers — hold it by the body. Pare the remains of the print supports away with a new, really sharp blade; a blunt blade is more likely to bend a part and break it off. Keep sanding to the spots left by the supports. They are glued with super glue applied with a pin or a wire — a drop from the tube is too big for this size and will flood the detail.
With spiders the reverse procedure works from the one used for fur: start with a dark base, because that on its own does most of the result, and add the light only with a dry brush along the back of the abdomen and along the edges of the legs. The markings on the abdomen are painted with the finest brush you have, and a few dots are quite enough. Thin the paint heavily, so that it does not flood the fine surface. The characteristic sheen of chitin you create by evening the whole figure out with a matte varnish and applying a gloss varnish in spots on the body only. In a scene a spider suits being placed together with a cobweb drawn out of cotton wool or of fine fibers.
The figures are supplied unpainted. Paints, glue and material for cobwebs are not part of the package, unless stated otherwise.
