Earth Green is a primer, that is a base coat, not a covering paint for finishing a model. Besides the usual role, which is adhesion and evening out the surface, a colored primer can do something extra: it sets the overall tone of the model before the painting itself. Where green camouflage would have to be laboriously built up in three coats over a gray or black base, two coats are enough over a related earthy green base. The designation in the name refers to the earlier variant of the shade within the range.

How to get the most out of a colored base

• Use it as the first coat while the model is still free of details that could be damaged - an evened-out surface will at the same time reveal grooves, scratches and imperfect joints.
• You can preshade straight onto the primer: a darker tone into the recesses and panel lines, a lighter one into the center of the areas. The translucent coat of paint that follows will keep the shading.
• Let the base cure before you start painting; a fresh coat could lift, especially if you use a different type of paint over it.
• Shake the bottle before every use and check the neck - dried remains in the dropper tend to be the cause of uneven dosing.
• Wash the remains off the dish and the tools with water right after work, while the primer has not dried.
