Foam sanding pads in 1200 grit from Green Stuff World. The finest step, for polishing and for preparing glossy surfaces.
Responsibility details are not available.
Sanding pads with the abrasive laid on flexible foam, in 1200 grit. A step this fine practically no longer removes material; its job is to smooth the surface to the state where paint or varnish forms a smooth, continuous film on it with no visible traces of the earlier work.
It is used for the final smoothing of puttied areas, for preparing a surface for a gloss varnish, for polishing transparent parts and for taking out small imperfections in a dried finish. On canopies and glazing, where smoothness matters most, it is one of the last steps before polishing with a compound.
Sand strictly wet, or an abrasive this fine clogs immediately. Work lightly and without pressure, because at this step it is the number of strokes that counts, not the force. On transparent parts, follow the sanding with a polishing compound, or the surface will stay matte. Always check the area against the light and wash the part when you have finished.
Protect your airways when sanding, but best of all sand wet. Count on progress being slow with an abrasive this fine and visible only after several dozen strokes, so do not press and take your time.
