Foam sanding pads in 400 grit from Green Stuff World. A medium grit for leveling seams and smoothing putty.
Responsibility details are not available.
Sanding pads with the abrasive laid on flexible foam, in 400 grit. The flexible backing adapts to the shape of the part, so it does not create a flat spot on a convex surface the way sandpaper backed by a finger commonly does. The 400 grit is the medium step usually started with once the excess putty has been roughly taken off.
It is used for leveling the seams after the fuselage has been glued together, for smoothing putty, for taking off the marks left by nippers and for leveling surfaces after the casting blocks have been cut from resin parts. This grit is followed by a finer step that removes the scratches which would otherwise show through the paint. On models with engraved panel lines, take care that the pad does not fill a line in; if it does, restore it with a scribing needle before the primer goes on.
Sand wet, as the pad then does not clog and the dust does not fly about. Work from a coarser grit to a finer one and do not skip several steps at once. Check the surface against the light as you go, because scratches show up better in a reflection than when looked at from directly above. After sanding, wash the part and dry it, and only then apply the primer.
Protect your airways when sanding, but best of all sand wet.
