The set is made up of five fine grits of flexible sanding paper: 1000, 1200, 1500, 2000 and 2500. It is a range meant for finishing, that is for the work that begins where the coarser papers left off. How many sheets of each grit the package contains and what size they are is given by the manufacturer on the packaging.
These steps remove practically no material, and that is their point. They smooth away the scratches left by coarser sanding, level a grainy coat of varnish, knock down a speck of dust that got into the finish while it was drying, and prepare a surface where the result is to be glossy. They also serve well on clear parts, on which a sanded area is gradually brought back to transparency. At the same time, the finer the step, the smaller the flaw it can put right, so it is not the place to start.
Go from the coarsest step of the set to the finest and wipe the surface between the steps so that loose grit does not make new scratches. On flat areas back the paper, while on curves use its flexibility. Whether the paper is also meant for wet sanding is given on the packaging; with fine grits working with water tends to be gentler and leaves a smoother mark. Wash and degrease the area before the next coat. The individual grits of this set are also sold separately as a refill package.
A set of sanding papers in the grits given is supplied. A sanding block, polishing compound and paints are not supplied with it, unless stated otherwise.
