Flexible abrasive paper of 400 grit is a middle stage, used to level a filled area and remove the scratches left by coarser sanding. The surface is left flat but still slightly matted, so a primer holds on it well; anyone who wants the surface smoother then moves on to a finer stage. The package is a refill, that is a top-up of a single grit; a set with several grits side by side also exists.
The paper is flexible, so it adapts to the shape of a part and does not sand only the high points as a rigid plate does. On a flat surface, back it with something flat even so, to avoid rounding the edges off. Sand in strokes in one direction, not in circles, because circles show even after further sanding under a gloss paint. Do not press, and replace the paper as it wears rather than pushing on. Whether it can also be used for wet sanding is stated by the manufacturer; dry dust should in any case be washed or blown off after work, otherwise it will be caught in the paint.
It suits anyone who fills seams and prepares a surface before painting: on an aircraft kit, a vehicle or a figure. 400 grit is used as an intermediate stage, after coarser leveling and before finishing with a finer paper.
The package holds abrasive paper of the stated grit. A sanding block, filler and paints are not included, unless stated otherwise.
