IDF Israeli Sand Grey (61-73) 17ml

Vallejo IDF Israeli Sand Grey 17 ml: a primer for various materials

This is a preparatory product, not a covering color. The water-based acrylic primer in a 17 ml package has the job of bonding the model to the coats of paint that follow, and that even where several different materials meet within one kit. That is precisely its main strength: plastic, resin, photo-etched sheet, white metal and printed resin all take paint differently, but over a unified base they behave the same. The sandy gray tone is at the same time a good base under light desert shades. The figure in parentheses by the name refers to the period the shade is tied to.

Use on individual materials

• Plastic and resin: wash in lukewarm water with a detergent and dry thoroughly. With resin this matters most, as remnants of release agent will reliably upset adhesion.
• Photo-etched parts and white metal: roughen the surface with a fine abrasive or a glass fiber pen, and only then prime. Smooth metal holds worse than plastic.
• Printed parts: rinse them and let them dry completely; residual print resin will stay soft under the primer.
• Apply thinly and rather twice over. A heavy coat of primer rounds off edges and changes the impression of thin parts, for instance the edges of photo-etched pieces.
• Before masking and clear-coating, let the layer cure, not merely dry to the touch.

Who it is for

For modelers who combine a plastic base with accessories in other materials, and for builders of equipment in light desert schemes, where a dark base needlessly pulls the resulting shade toward gray.

Apply in a ventilated space, and when spraying use a respirator and eye protection. Keep out of the reach of children and close the bottle after use.
