What the color is for

Turquoise green is among the shades used to paint the interiors of Soviet aircraft: the cockpit, the instrument panel, the wheel wells and the inner faces of doors. A modeler will appreciate it every time they build a Soviet-built machine and want the cockpit to be faithful in color without having to mix the shade themselves. The shade is conspicuous and clearly visible in a finished cockpit, so it pays to apply it evenly and to add the shadows and scuffs only afterwards. The cockpit tends to be the first thing looked at on a finished model, and an unsuccessful application is visible through the canopy.

Application

Stir the paint thoroughly before use, because the pigment sinks to the bottom when standing and unstirred paint changes the shade. It is applied with an airbrush as well as a brush; when spraying, several light coats work better than one heavy one, otherwise the fine relief detail gets clogged. Choose the thinner and the thinning ratio according to the manufacturer's instructions on the packaging and use the thinner intended for this range. Work in a ventilated area.

Building tips

Paint the interior before you glue the fuselage halves together; afterwards you cannot get into the cockpit. Once it is dry, a darker flow into the corners and a light emphasis of the edges help to deepen the space visually. It is better to paint the seat, the belts and the handles separately, otherwise the whole interior merges into one surface. Interior surfaces need only a small amount of paint, so one package lasts for several models.
