Bluing is a surface treatment of steel in which a thin oxide layer forms on the metal and the surface takes on a dark appearance shading into blue and black. It is precisely this tone that the Blued Gun Metallic shade from the anniversary Little Armory Color range imitates. It contains metallic particles, so a metallic sheen stays on the finished surface and the paint responds to falling light much as real metal does, not like a black paint with no effect.
On the bolts, barrels, trigger guards and metal parts of models of small arms, on the small hardware of figures, on tools, chains and shackles on vehicle models and on metal accessories on vehicles. It also works well as a dark base under drybrushing with a lighter metallic shade, which pulls out the edges and the places laid bare by wear.
The metallic particles settle at the bottom, so stir the bottle properly before every use and repeat the stirring during longer work. Apply it onto a smooth base, ideally over a dark primer; every scratch and every grain shows up more under a metallic shade than under an ordinary paint. Thin it with the thinner intended for the Mr.Color range, as this range is not thinned with water. It is better not to go over the dried surface with a matte clear coat, because a matting agent suppresses the metallic effect. Use masking tape on a metallic surface carefully and only once it is completely dry.
For builders of models of weapons, figures and vehicles who need a believable dark metal. The paint alone is supplied. The thinner, a brush and an airbrush are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
