Meng Mecha Model Stand – a stand for a mecha model

An accessory from the brand Meng intended for displaying mecha models. It is not a model of a robot or a mecha kit but a base on which a finished model stands. With tall and narrow mecha models that is more practical than it looks at first sight: a figure with long limbs and a small foot area is inclined to tip over on a smooth shelf, and when it does, it breaks at the thinnest point.

Use

• Prepare the stand before you put the model on the shelf. Seating a finished and painted piece is always riskier than allowing for a base from the start.
• Seat the model on the stand without force. If it does not seat first time, look for the cause rather than pushing it down hard.
• You can paint or weather the base so that it matches the model. An airbrush will manage a transition from a dark floor to the edge on it without a hard border.
• Before displaying it in a case, rid the stand of dust and fingerprints. On a large smooth surface they are far more visible than on a broken-up model.

Who the stand is for

It suits anyone who builds mecha models and is working out how to stand them safely in a display case and how to give them a little extra presentation. It also comes into its own for photography, where a base anchors a model in one position and you do not have to watch whether it sways during the exposure. Because it is a standalone accessory, it is not tied to a single kit and you use it according to what fits it in size.
