Of the four grain sizes offered, this one is the easiest to use. The individual stones are large enough for the eye to make them out on a diorama and at the same time small enough for a layer to hold together and not slide off a slope. Anyone building a first rock who does not want to buy a whole set of grades usually makes do with precisely this one bag.
Loose stone has the property of being read by its surroundings. Beside a vehicle in one size it comes across as gravel, by a model in another as boulders. The neutral natural tone goes along with that, because it carries no conspicuous signal of color that would shift the result toward one particular landscape.
On a slope steeper than about forty degrees it pays off to work in two goes. First apply glue with a brush and spread the material over a small area, wait and only then go on beside it. Anyone who tries to cover a whole slope at once will get a heap at the foot and a bare place at the top. Once it is dry the layer can still be filled out where the base shows through and unified in color with a thin glaze. Patience is worth more here than any aid: two hours of waiting between layers do more for the result than the most expensive glue applied in one dose.
