Mr. Cement Deluxe is a liquid cement for polystyrene models. It does not act as a layer between the parts but melts the plastic where they meet, so that once dry the parts have grown together. The joint is then strong and can be sanded and smoothed so that no visible seam is left behind. That is exactly why this type of glue is preferred to cyanoacrylate on plastic models.
First dry-fit the parts and clean up the mating surfaces so that they sit together without a gap. Then press them together and apply the glue with the brush to the edge of the joint, from where it spreads into the seam by itself through capillary action. A small amount is enough; the excess runs onto the surface and etches it. Hold the parts pressed together for a moment, which closes the joint firmly.
The glue holds on bare plastic, so scrape the paint away at the joint beforehand. It does not hold on resin or on photo-etched metal, and there you should reach for cyanoacrylate. On clear parts the fumes threaten to fog the surface, so use a glue intended for clear parts on canopies. Before you start sanding a joint, let it harden properly: the plastic under the surface stays soft longer than it seems, and premature sanding will press the joint in. Work in a ventilated space.
Anyone who builds plastic kits will use this glue, whatever the scale and subject. The package contains only the 40 ml of glue, and the model, paints and tools are not included, unless stated otherwise.
