The gray-green factory shade of Japanese naval aviation in the variant used by the Mitsubishi factory. A lacquer paint in a bottle of 10 ml, aimed at the airbrush.
Responsibility details are not available.
A gray-green with a cast toward beige is the factory finish that the machines of the Imperial Japanese Navy received before the change to a dark green upper camouflage coat. In the Mitsubishi variant it is the shade from the lines in Nagoya, from which came the early versions of the A6M fighter as well as the twin-engine bombers of the G4M series.
Every factory mixed the same specification a little differently and the difference is noticeable when two models are compared side by side. The finishes from Nakajima leaned more toward green and gray, while Mitsubishi aimed at a warmer, lighter tone. Anyone building a machine from a specific production batch will reach for the variant matching the assembly plant.
Although this product is commonly grouped with acrylic paints, this range is built on a lacquer binder with an organic solvent. That has practical consequences. The paint dries fast and into a hard film, it takes masking after only a short time and it can be polished. It is thinned with its own lacquer thinner, and water or a thinner from water-thinnable ranges does not belong here.
The bottle holds 10 ml, which is comfortably enough for a single-stage finish on a single-engine machine in the larger scales. Stir the contents properly before loading, as the pigment settles to the bottom. Apply with an airbrush; a brush leaves pronounced strokes with this range. Work in a well-ventilated area and protect your airways. The dried surface takes both oil tuning of the panel lines and a final matte coat, so the shade fits into any finishing procedure.
