A modeling aid for mixing and stirring paints before application, listed under the designation Mr. Mix II.
Responsibility details are not available.
Mr. Mix II is an item of modeling accessory for painting and serves for mixing paints. It comes into its own when paint needs to be stirred properly before application or when a shade of one's own has to be mixed from several colors. The manufacturer's instructions describe how it is used and what is supplied.
Modeling paints separate in the bottle. The pigment sinks to the bottom while the binder and the thinner stay on top, so paint taken out without stirring gives a different shade and different coverage from what the label says. The difference is greatest with matte and metallic shades, because those contain the most solid particles. Stirring thoroughly right down to the bottom of the bottle is therefore the condition for two sprayed coats from the same bottle to look the same. In the same way, a self-mixed shade is worth preparing straight away in the quantity needed for a whole model, because hitting exactly the same ratio a second time is difficult.
Stir slowly and near the bottom; vigorous stirring at the top only whips air bubbles into the paint, which then leave small craters in the sprayed coat. Clean the aid with the thinner intended for the paint range after every use, as dried paint is far harder to remove. Choose a mixing pot that is rather small but tall, so that the paint does not spill over the rim while being stirred.
The aid suits anyone who paints with an airbrush or mixes their own shades and wants a consistent result from batch to batch. Paints, thinner and other accessories are not included, unless stated otherwise.
