Mr. Paper Card Sandpaper, 600 grit (Gunze)

Sandpaper from the Japanese manufacturer Gunze in a card format, in 600 grit. The finer grit no longer removes material but smooths: it takes out the scratches left by the medium grit and prepares the surface so that the primer lies evenly on it and the paint is not given away by a grainy texture. The card format sits well in the hand and makes it possible to work in tight places too. The dimensions, the number of sheets in the package and whether it suits wet sanding are stated on the box.

Use

• Bring 600 grit in as the last step before the primer, after coarse and medium sanding.
• Guide the paper lightly, without pressure, because the aim is no longer to remove material but to even the surface out.
• Use it for sanding between coats of filler primer as well, when grain or dust shows up in the finish.
• Carefully remove all dust from the surface after sanding; residue shows under the paint as small bumps.
• Sand carefully over engraved panel lines, because fine grooves are easily filled with sanding dust.

For modelers who want a smooth, even surface under the paint, especially under gloss shades and under metallic effects, which bring out every bit of unevenness. It also suits work with fillers and the finishing of small parts. The same line comes in grits from 240 to 1000, so you can put together the whole sanding sequence.

Do not inhale the sanding dust and work in a ventilated space; on larger areas a respirator is useful. Keep the sandpaper dry.
