Mr. Surfacer 1200 in a 170 ml spray can (Gunze)

A sprayable filler and base layer in an aerosol pack with a volume of 170 ml from the Japanese manufacturer Gunze, also known under the GSI Creos brand. It is applied straight from the can, so neither an airbrush nor a compressor is needed for the work. The neutral gray shade serves as a base on which seams, scratches and transitions between parts are clearly visible.

How it differs from a coarser filler

The number in the name gives the fineness of the filler. The 1200 range has a finer grit than Mr. Surfacer 1000 and therefore leaves a smoother surface once wet-sanded. It suits places where it is no longer about filling large cavities but about the last leveling of an area just before varnishing.

Use

• Shake the can thoroughly before work.
• Spray from a distance of roughly 25 to 30 cm in several thin coats.
• Do not stop the stream in the middle of an area, as an uneven layer would result.
• Degrease the area before spraying and free it of dust and abrasive residue.
• Once dry, sand the surface with fine abrasive paper under water.

Who it is for

For modelers who want to prepare the surface of a kit even without an airbrush, and as a quick solution when repairing individual parts and seams. It also serves well during a final inspection before varnishing, when a uniform gray base reveals flaws that are invisible on parts of different colors.
