A waterproof abrasive paper from Gunze (Mr.Hobby) in a fine 1000 grit. The package contains 4 sheets. It is meant mainly for wet sanding: you keep wetting both the surface and the paper with water. Wet sanding makes no dust (the plastic and resin dust that is sanded off is harmful and must not be inhaled), the paper does not clog, because the water washes the removed material away, and the surface is markedly smoother as a result. The paper can also be used dry.
The higher the number, the finer the paper. 1000 is a fine step for the final preparation of a surface under paint: it creates a smooth, even base on which paint or a filling surfacer holds well and sits evenly. It is the grit most often used right before painting. It is not suited to removing material, as it assumes a surface that is already leveled and cleaned up.
For modelers who are finishing the preparation of a surface before painting. Anyone who skips the earlier coarser steps risks having deeper scratches show through under the clear coat, where the gloss will emphasize them. That is why these papers are bought in a whole range of grits.
Dry sanding creates dust: use a respirator and ventilate. Wet sanding cuts the dust down markedly.
