A modeling set of abrasive papers from the Japanese manufacturer Gunze in a coarser grade. This is not a kit but a tool. Coarser abrasive is meant for the first and most demanding stage of the work: removing the remains of sprue gates, leveling mold seams, sanding down surplus putty and adjusting the shape of parts. It takes material off quickly, so it saves a lot of time where fine paper would take needlessly long. The marks it leaves behind are then smoothed out with finer grits.
Sand with a feel for it and rather for shorter spells more often, as coarse paper can take off more than intended and will easily flatten engraved panel lines. On flat surfaces use paper backed by a hard sanding block. After coarse sanding always go on with finer grits, otherwise the scratches will show through the paint. Engraved lines lost to sanding should be restored with a scribing needle before primer goes on. A test coat of primer shows the real state of the surface.
For anyone who builds plastic kits and needs to handle the basic preparation of parts, and for modelers working with resin, where a coarser abrasive is essential for casting blocks. It pairs ideally with a fine set for the final work.
Sanding dry creates dust that should not be inhaled, and with resin that goes double. A respirator and a ventilated room are recommended. The set does not contain paints, primer or putty.
