An orange fluorescent shade from the Precision Fluor range by AK Interactive, for flames, glowing metal, beacons and conspicuous warning markings.

An orange fluorescent shade from the Precision Fluor range by AK Interactive. It is the classic color of fire and red-hot metal: the flash from a gun barrel, the efflux from a jet nozzle, smoldering wreckage in a diorama. It serves just as well on the conspicuous warning surfaces of rescue and airfield vehicles, on orange beacons and on the light-emitting parts of science fiction models and gaming figures.
Fluorescent pigment returns the light that falls on it at a different wavelength, which is why it looks brighter than anything you could mix from an ordinary paint, and it stands out most under an ultraviolet lamp. It does not glow in the dark by itself; this is not a phosphorescent paint. Coverage is weaker than with ordinary shades, and over a dark base the color darkens and the brightness is lost.
A white base and two or three thin coats with time to dry in between give the best result. On a flame work from the bright center outwards, let the orange pass into red and mute the edges with a darker color or with soot, so that it shows where the fire ends. It also pays to darken the surface around a glowing spot, since a light patch on its own looks stuck on. Over a large area it is better to break the color into several smaller strokes and let the base show through between them, because a solid fill looks flat. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for thinning and for cleaning your tools.
For builders of combat dioramas and of vehicles with heat effects, for modelers of rescue and airfield vehicles and for figure painters. It is sold on its own; the model, the thinner and varnish are not included, unless stated otherwise.
