A plastic kit of the Y-20 transport aircraft from the Chinese manufacturer Meng, in its range of deliberately stylized aircraft. The fuselage is shortened and stubby, the cockpit enlarged, the wing and tail surfaces reduced. It is therefore not a reduction in a faithful ratio and the model consequently does not and cannot have a conventional scale. The exact number of parts, the way they join and the contents of the decal sheet are given in the instructions in the package.
The Y-20 is a four-engine jet transport aircraft with a high wing, a bulky fuselage and a cargo ramp at the rear. It first flew in 2013 and entered service in 2016. It serves to carry heavy loads, equipment and personnel over long distances, and structurally it follows the classic layout of strategic transports, with landing gear adapted for operating from poorer surfaces. Its introduction markedly widened the transport capabilities of the People's Liberation Army Air Force.
Stylized models are rewarding precisely because you can finish them quickly and without much filling. Even so, the mold seams are worth sanding down, because on the large smooth surfaces of the fuselage they show clearly. Apply the base shade with an airbrush or a spray can in thin coats; caricatured shapes will take fairly strong panel shading. If you assemble the model without glue, mask the mating faces before painting, so that no layer of paint is left in them and the parts still fit together. Bond the cockpit glazing with a cement for clear parts.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
