Egg-shaped aeroplanes are the kits that gave this style its name. A famous fighter is squeezed into a round-bellied fuselage with an oversized canopy, and the parts that identify the machine – undercarriage, seat, underwing stores, rotor head on the helicopters – survive the caricature intact. Jets, ground-attack types and rescue rotorcraft all get the treatment.
Part counts stay low, so a build runs across an evening or two rather than a season. That makes these a sensible first aeroplane for a young builder and a palate cleanser for somebody between two long projects.

These stubby aeroplanes are the largest group inside egg models and cute model kits, which also covers shortened warships and barrel-shaped armour. Once the joke wears off and real proportions start to appeal, aircraft model kits pick up the same subjects at full scale, while anyone caught by rotors carries on into helicopter model kits.
