A set of brushes for the drybrushing technique

Drybrushing is a technique in which paint is taken up on a brush and almost all of it is wiped off again, so that on the model it clings only to the raised places. This picks out the edges, the rivets, the texture of the surface and scuffed places. The brush is used in a way that destroys it: it is rubbed against a dry surface and against the paper it is wiped on. Never use a brush intended for painting for this work, therefore. The set contains four pieces in sizes 3, 5, 7 and 9, that is from small details to large surfaces, and it comes in a box in which they can be stored.

Use

• Take the paint up on the tip and wipe almost all of it off on paper; only a trace should stay on the brush.
• Pass over lightly and across the edges; pressure will smear the paint over the surface.
• Start with less than you think; you can add, but you cannot take away.
• Choose the size according to the surface, a smaller one for rivets, a larger one for the running gear and the texture.
• Clean the brush right after work and let it dry lying flat, so that it keeps its shape.
• Work in side light; only then will you see where the paint actually settles.
