About product

IAI Kfir C2/C7, Israeli Air Force (1:72, Academy)

An injection-molded plastic kit of the Israeli fighter IAI Kfir in the C2 and C7 versions in 1:72 scale from the Korean manufacturer Academy. The model is supplied as a classic plastic kit with waterslide decals and allows the machine to be built in one of the marking variants offered. The particular contents of the package and the list of schemes follow the given edition.

The real subject

The IAI Kfir (Hebrew for lion cub) was an Israeli single-seat multirole combat fighter developed by the Israeli aviation industry (Israel Aircraft Industries). It was based on the airframe of the French Dassault Mirage 5, into which the Israelis fitted the American General Electric J79 jet engine and their own avionics. Its characteristic recognition mark was the canards ahead of the main delta wing, which improved maneuverability and behavior on takeoff and landing. The C2 version introduced the canards and further aerodynamic modifications, while the more capable C7 brought modernized avionics and a higher weapons load. Kfirs served with the Israeli Air Force and were also exported to other countries.

Building and painting tips

Separate the parts with side cutters and line them up dry; use a liquid modeling cement for plastic. Assemble the cockpit and the front canards carefully, because they are exposed to view. Apply a primer before painting. The Israeli desert camouflage comes out well sprayed with an airbrush with soft transitions between the shades; apply the decals onto a gloss varnish and fix them with a matte varnish. With desert schemes, a fine accentuation of the panel lines and a light dust patina suit well.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of modern jet fighters
  • Anyone interested in the Israeli Air Force and in equipment derived from the Mirage
  • Modelers with basic experience of building plastic kits in 1:72
  • Fans of machines with a canard aerodynamic layout

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
