A set of pilot seat belts for a model of the P-51D Mustang in 1:48 scale. An accessory for a kit that brings an open cockpit to life.
Responsibility details are not available.
The P-51D Mustang was an American fighter of the Second World War whose escort range became its main strength. The D version received a teardrop canopy and a cut-down rear fuselage, so the cockpit can be seen from practically every side. That is precisely why a finished model shows whether the seat is empty or whether belts run across it.
In an injection-molded kit the seat belts are either suggested by shallow relief or missing altogether. A separate set replaces them with parts that have real thickness, can be bent over the edge of the seat and left to hang freely. The cockpit thereby gains scale and does not look like an empty tub. The extent of the package and the exact arrangement of the belts are shown in the instructions enclosed by the maker.
Fit the belts before you glue the fuselage halves together; once it is closed you cannot get into the cockpit. Paint the seat first and let it dry, and only then put the belts in place. Before you apply them, check in the instructions what form the parts take and how they are attached, because with belts the method differs from one item to another. Shape the folds with the blunt tip of a toothpick and let the belt fall naturally over the edge; a straight belt laid on the cushion gives away that it is an imitation.
The set is for modelers who are building the Mustang in 1:48 scale and want something to show under an open canopy. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
