Pre-cut masking pieces for the glazing of the famous Huey in 1:72 scale. Shaped for one particular kit, so there is no cutting of strips and no taping.
Responsibility details are not available.
The cabin of the UH-1D is a masking nightmare. The windshield is split into several irregular panes, there are roof windows above the pilots' heads, doors with large windows on the sides and triangular side lights on top of that. Anyone masking it with tape will happily spend an hour on a single helicopter and still get paint mist under the edge in several places.
Pre-cut pieces shorten that step to a few minutes. They are die-cut to the shape of one particular kit, they go onto the glass, they are pressed against the frame with a toothpick and they peel off after spraying. The edge comes out sharp along the whole length of the frame, which on a helicopter with this many panes is the difference between a model that looks clean and a model where every repair shows.
The UH-1D is the most widespread version of the Huey, the machine that became a symbol of the Vietnam War. Against the earlier versions it got a longer cabin with more room for troops and a more powerful engine. It carried infantry into the battle area, evacuated the wounded and, in the role of the slick, a machine without fixed armament, it formed the backbone of air mobility. It also served in Germany, where the army operated it in huge numbers for decades.
Before the pieces go on, it pays to rinse the clear parts in lukewarm water with a drop of dish soap and let them dry freely, so that no greasy fingerprint is left on the glass.
