Dry Brush Set (Small / Medium and Large)

A set of drybrushing brushes (Mirage Hobby)

This is a tool for painting, not a paint: a set of three brushes intended for the drybrushing technique, in small, medium and large sizes, from the Polish maker Mirage Hobby. These brushes have a short, stiff, flat head, because in drybrushing the paint is not applied but wiped off: almost all the paint is taken off the brush and the remainder is carried only onto the raised edges.

Use

• bringing out edges, rivets, rims and relief on equipment and on figures
• suggesting abrasion and wear in a metallic shade
• lifting the texture of fabric and leather features on figures
• working pigments into recesses and into the texture of a surface

Who it is for

For modelers who already have a painted model and want it to stop looking flat. The procedure: pick up a very small amount of paint, wipe it off onto paper or a cloth until the brush leaves almost nothing behind, and only then pass lightly over the edges. The three sizes make sense in that the same technique is used on whole sides of a hull and on a single rivet. An ordinary soft brush is not enough for this technique and is also quickly ruined by it, which is why separate brushes are set aside for drybrushing.

Clean the brushes after work; dried paint at the ferrule splays the head out for good. Ventilate when working with solvent-based paints and keep the brushes out of the reach of children. Drybrushing also wears brushes out quickly, so it is sensible not to use brushes you care about for this technique.
