Mirage Hobby Sanding Sponge 1500 grit is a set of six flexible sanding sponges with a very fine 1500 grit, for final smoothing before varnish, for sanding between coats and for preparing the surface for polishing. They sand dry and wet, and the sponge is washable and reusable.

A set of six flexible foam sanding sponges from the Polish manufacturer Mirage Hobby with a grit of 1500. This is not a kit but a modeling tool for the last stage of surface preparation. The abrasive grain sits on compliant foam, so the sponge follows rounded shapes and smooths curves evenly, without flat spots and without rubbed-through edges. It can be used dry and wet, and after work it is rinsed in water and ready for the next job.
Within this range, 1500 is the finest grit. The material no longer removes anything, it only smooths microscopic unevenness. With abrasives, the lower the number, the coarser the grain: 400 takes material away quickly, 1500 only smooths. Always work from a coarser grit to a finer one and do not skip steps, because a fine sponge will never smooth out the scratches left by a coarse one, it will only polish them. A grit of 1500 is therefore the last step before the surface is sprayed with the final varnish or taken to polishing, and after it the area is smooth to the touch and the gloss takes hold evenly.
For plastic modelers who build aircraft, vehicles, ships and figures and need to sand shapes that flat abrasive paper cannot reach. The flexible foam backing adapts to the curve of a fuselage, wing, turret or helmet and leaves neither flat spots nor sanded-off edges. A sponge can be cut up to reach tight spots as well. A grit of 1500 is indispensable for glossy surfaces such as cars, motorcycles and chromed or polished areas.
The package contains 6 pieces. After work, rinse the sponge in clean water, squeeze it out and let it dry freely, and it will regain its flexibility and can be used again.
